For the past year, life as we know it has literally been turned upside down – and mams have been there every step of the way.
A whole year of muttering FFS under your breath, dealing with tantrums, wearing tea stained loungewear, working from home, being key workers, home schooling, hiding in the car or out in the garage so you can have two minutes to yourself, crying to your parents on facetime…it’s been a tough one…make 2021’s Mother’s Day a great one!
So, if you’re sat there wondering what gift to get your Mam, Step Mam, Mum, Gran or Mamgu this Mother’s Day, not to worry! We’ve trawled through the community of Anni’s amazing makers and sellers to bring you a guide of Welsh gifts that will put a smile on her face.
You can also send a gift directly to your Mam. Remember to use her address in the shipping details and get it sent directly to her!
1. Candles from Milltir Sgwar
One of the most popular items sold on Anni as well as one of our personal favourites. Based in Grangetown, Cardiff, Llyr and Llinos realised their dream of starting a candle company during the Covid lockdown of 2020 and have since gone from strength to strength, producing a wide range of candles with incredible scents.
What makes their candles such a special gift? Their emphasis on place; the “Square Mile”, each of their candles represents a place in Wales and takes that as the inspiration for the scents they create.
2. Madog Millinery Accessories
Erin is the designer and milliner behind Madog hats. She was brought up surrounded by the mountains of Ffestiniog in north Wales, and is now based in Cardiff where she makes hats and headpieces.
With a background in designing costumes for the stage, she decided to focus more on headwear whilst on tour with a show in rural Brittany. After six months living in Japan, ideas and designs began to develop, and in 2017 Madog Millinery was born.
Many of the styles are inspired by time living abroad; the landscapes and mountains, roadtrips, exploring woodlands, and campfires on beaches. They are made with a sense of adventure in mind!
3. Smiley Jumper by SMEI
Originally from Pen Llŷn, Sioned now lives and works in Cardiff. She loves to create work that conveys a special, inspiring message, that also evokes positivity.
So why not gift your Mam some positive vibes with one of SMEI’s creations!
4. Red and Brass Flo Earrings by Matico
Matico’s story is a very special one and we’re proud to list some of her items on Anni. Mati took inspiration from her time spent nursing in Ghana where she fell in love with the vibrant colours and patterns of the locally produced fabrics. Matico’s mission is to use the business to fund projects abroad and in the UK, including a school in Ghana.
These unique and striking earrings use fabric discovered in Ghana and would look as good in Cardiff as they would in Accra!

Nia is a Swansea based screen printer + textile designer specialising in hand printed monochrome homewares and accessories!

6. Gin by Cadi Newbery
Created by Anni’s very own Cadi Newbery, they don’t call it Mother’s ruin for nothing!
Having studied Contemporary Craft at Falmouth University, Cadi is inspired by geometric patterns and earthy colours. But also has a love of Gin! What a perfect addition to any gin lover’s home!
